A night of sparkle, speeches and celebration brought our Year 6 community together to honour the end of their Primary school years. Our annual Year 6 Celebration Dinner recognises the courage, character and growth each student has shown across their years with us. Families, teachers and students gather to celebrate the journey already lived and the new chapter ahead.
"Our theme for this year was 'Journey' and we all made speeches reflecting our journeys. A lot of hard work that went into it all. It's about representing all of the hard work we've done and celebrating that we've finished and are heading into a new journey in high school." - Layla, Year 6
Preparation for the evening starts at the end of Year 5 when the cohort chooses the theme for their celebration. This cohort selected the theme of “Journey,” a thoughtful expression of how they see their own growth. Students shape the event by choosing the menu, contributing to the atmosphere and preparing personal speeches that they deliver on the night. Instrumental and vocal performers provide live music, adding another layer of meaning as students offer their gifts to their community.
"My favourite part was giving my speech because I wanted to get it over, and the food was so good. Seeing all the parents watching made me nervous at the start but my parents are so proud of me." - Laveen, Year 6
The Year 6 Celebration Dinner is a very special time of recognition and blessing, a pause to honour the relationships, memories and learning that have formed these students. As they step into Secondary school, they do so with a stronger sense of who they are and the support of a community that believes in them.
Layla's advice for next year's Year 6 students: "Savour every moment because it goes by so quickly."
