The long drive to Camp Somerset Dam is always worth it. Year 5 and 6 had a great time in the beauty of God’s creation and beautiful weather. With this year’s camp motto, “Bring Your Best,” students approached each activity with enthusiasm, courage and a willingness to try new things.

Students took part in a range of activities including archery, canoeing, the giant swing, high ropes koala climb and the pool pontoon. Each experience invited them to step beyond their comfort zone, try something new and support one another along the way. It was inspiring to see students achieve more than they thought possible.

"Camp is really fun because you can try new things. When you try new things you learn more.” - Elise, Year 6

"It was my first time trying canoeing. I was nervous at first but then I got the hang of it.” - Mikey, Year 5

"We all had a lot of fun and we all went out of our comfort zones. When you go out of your comfort zone, you might feel a little scared but after you feel better. I tried the giant swing that swings out over a massive cliff, and I went to the very top!” - Ryder, Year 5

Camp also created space for deeper moments including devotions, worship, cabin time and time in God’s creation, with highlights like hearing howling dingoes and spotting a goanna.

Year 5 and 6 Camp is part of our camps program, designed to lead students through a journey across their school years. Held in Term 1, these experiences are timed to help students build strong friendships, develop a culture of encouragement and grow in confidence and independence for the year ahead. Camps create memories and impact students in ways that stay with them long after they return home.

“I feel a lot closer to my friends and we have a stronger bond.” - Elise, Year 6

“Camp was amazing! It was really fun, and we got to play games together. We did singing and worship and it felt good.” - Anna, Year 5

"I'm new to the school and I'm so glad I went to camp. It was great to be with my friends and I loved the ropes course, the giant swing, and the meals were so good." - Ezekiel, Year 6

"It was amazing to witness the growth in our students over such a short time. Their confidence, resilience, and friendships developed in meaningful ways throughout the camp experience. We are truly blessed to be part of such a caring and supportive school community." - Mrs Velic, Year 5 teacher

As the camp came to a close, students reflected on their experience and shared this advice for those coming next year:

"My advice is to try things. If it’s really out of your comfort zone, you don’t have to, but if it’s a little out of your comfort zone, give it a try!" - Mikey, Year 5

"My advice is don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone." - Ryder, Year 5

"Be open to do new things and try and bond with your class because it brings you together and then you’re stronger together." - Mabel, Year 6
