Book Fair Writers Workshops a Hit

As a part of our recent Book Fair on August 11, Karen Collum (our Author in Residence), ran a number of writers workshops for our students. In junior primary, students were treated to a book reading where the story was brought to life by kids dressing up and a juggling Karen! The essential elements of a narrative were workshopped with Year 3 & 4, while Year 5 & 6 learnt all about the concept of “show don’t tell” in story writing. Year 5 & 6 students also had the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge in identifying the turning points in their own stories and thinking about what event/incident/problem their character encountered that shifted the story from one segment to the next. Secondary students enjoyed hearing all about the industry in their workshop, asking questions and hearing about Karen’s own journey through the publishing process. Students had a great time engaging in this creative environment- thank you Karen for sharing your expertise with us all!
